OVERTHINKING: From Problem to Superpower
Neuroplasticity: The scientific concept that says you can change the physical structure of your brain by changing your thoughts.
Overtime I have not fancied the idea of overthinking. I don't see myself as an overthinker, I am more of a carefree person and I love the feeling that comes with it.
And I know there are lots like me too, but it doesn't mean we should neglect those who are overthinkers, many became overthinkers as a result of many reasons and that's totally okay, it could be as a result of a sense of insecurity in their relationship, a family issue, financial worries, e t.c.
Overthinking wrecks leaders of organization, industry, even as little as being a partner, more than anything else. Overthinking is not a personality trait, so stop being proud that you are an overthinker. Lol.
How I see Overthinking as is; Overthinking is when what you think gets in the way of what you want.
Now, all I'm trying to say is Overthinking in itself is not totally bad, what's bad is when your overthinking becomes your problem.
So why not change your problem of overthinking to a Superpower!? Sounds fun yeah?
What you need to do is to first break the repetitive soundtrack of thoughts that you listen to always, because the more you keep listening to them, the sooner they would become a part of your personal mind playlist.
"You are not enough"
"He's probably busy with another woman"
"This is not working, no matter how hard I try"
You see great thoughts leads to great actions and great actions leads to great results.
So start by building a decent thought line.
Having broken that repetitive soundtrack of thoughts, what you need to do next is to replace them.
Start saying more positive things to yourself, and in no time you would tend to see the positive side of things whenever you are confronted with a challenge or stuck at a crossroad.
You can't control people's actions towards you but what you can control is your reaction.
Every reaction is an Education.
I used to belong to this school of thought that says, everyone should get back a measure of what they dish out, but recently I've been doing a mind overhauling and before I do react to something now, I first think within myself:
Is it True? One of the biggest mistake you can make as a person is to believe the reaction to your first thought is true.
Is it Helpful? Somethings in life are true, but they aren't helpful. For example, yes Clara was not picked to go represent your team because she underperformed the last time, and hence is seen as unfit, she underperformed true, but she seeing herself as unfit isn't helpful.
Is it kind? Thoughts come by choice or chance. So as much as thoughts can flow into your mind, it's up to you to discern and seive what you think and say about someone or yourself.
The state of unkindness is rapidly growing in this generation and it's sad.
Developing a strong Empathy for People would help you understand what someone needs and then you will act on it.
Care about what the people you care about care about! This would help you listen to the innermost thoughts of people around you and would help you not to overthink some of the actions they display.
Most importantly, don't forget to always ask questions, when you stop asking questions then innovation or learning is over.
Embrace Diversity!
Celebrate and not deliberate differences.
Don't be too quick to judge or jump into a conclusion of something or about someone, you could use a minute to ask for clarification. Receiving people with honor is a lot different from condoning their differences, before telling someone how to behave, look into the mirror.
Rather engage in discussions than debating!
Be an extreme listener, not necessarily to respond but to understand.
And personally if you want to break out of the grip of Overthinking, admit to your mistakes, admit that you are wrong and you assumed or concluded on someone without knowing the full thing, because if you can't admit to your mistakes then you are doomed to repeat the same cycle over again!

Isaac Muse.
I'd call myself an over thinker. I have analysed everything, I mean the worst of the worst even before it happens, then start to get worried over my own thoughts.
ReplyDeleteBut recently I've learnt to let be of what I can't control and focus on what's within my influence at the moment.
You write beautifully with so much sense.
Thank you for this awesome piece.
Thank you so much for your time to read through. I'm glad you found it inspiring ๐
